Push Away
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Summary
"Push Away" is a short narrative game intended to start a conversation about sexual assault, dissociation, and what silence in those situations can mean -- essentially why silence means no, for me. This game is also talking about what it can be like to embody an underrepresented group in technological spaces. It directly shows why being absorbed in your computer in a lab can be a vulnerable position. It explores how related memories stick together and tear you from the present. But ultimately, this is a defiant game. There's a theme of learning to code to recoding one's psychology -- choosing to overcome vulnerabilities and stay in this field (which has wholly transformed my life for the better). I hope this game is validating for survivors and enlightening for perpetrators. I hope this exploration into the mechanics of dissociation helps players discuss these important issues, which can be so scary to find the words to describe.
NOTE: If the mac build doesn't work on your mac, please try the windows build (if possible). We still have some mac compatibility issues, especially on older macs.
